MAUHS Philosophy & Objectives
The school seeks to establish an environment that will stimulate the abilities to reason, create, set goals, and make decisions. The school also seeks to aid the growth process by:
1. Providing respect for individual differences and capacities;
2. Fostering realistic exposure to possible options in life;
3. Cultivating within students a mature and healthy respect for themselves, society and learning.
OBJECTIVES
Whereas we believe:
1. That every individual has a reasonable right to attain a high school education, we strive
a. To recognize the school as a resource center for the entire community
b. To recognize that the community serves as a resource for the school
c. To recognize that programs of study may be adjusted to meet the needs of the
individual and community.
2. That Mount Anthony, being a comprehensive secondary school, must offer varied programs
designed to assist students in discovering and developing their potential, we strive to
encourage
a. Mastery of basic skills and knowledge, and the demonstration of mastery as the
criterion for promotion
b. Advanced placement
c. Exploration of vocational and technical fields
d. Community involvement in program development
e. Interdisciplinary planning
f. The use of a variety of learning materials and resources
g. Diversity among the faculty
h. Continuity through a coordinated K-12 system
i. Faculty awareness of and use of current research in teaching and learning
3. That the school, home and community have a responsibility to develop contributing members
who will constructively question and actively support our democratic society, we strive:
a. To encourage participation in a variety of school activities
b. To increase awareness of social/global problems
c. To have students assume increasing responsibility as a member of the wider community
4. That education cultivates in the student self-awareness, self –discipline, and self-respect;
and by doing so creates independence, reliability, and a sense of personal achievement,
we strive:
a. To encourage the development of cultural, social, moral, and ethical values
b. To encourage cooperation, learning, critical thinking and creativity.
c. To develop the aesthetic sense
d. To develop tolerance and respect for the ideas and opinions of others
These statements and objectives must be periodically evaluated since social and technological changes are inherent in our culture.
