Dress Code
It is the purpose of the MAU dress code to promote academic and social growth, to maintain a productive and positive learning environment, and to minimize disruption and distractions. Students are expected to dress in a manner appropriate to promoting a learning environment. Administrators will have the final say.
1. Shirts, blouses and dresses must completely cover the cleavage area, back, and top of shoulders. Spaghetti straps, muscle shirts and halter-tops are not permitted. Shirts or tops must at all times cover the waistband of pants, shorts, or skirts with no midriff visible.
2. Clothing that is ripped or torn in a suggestive and revealing way shall not be worn.
3. Body wear that contains or includes messages implicitly or explicitly promoting use of substances such as tobacco, drugs, alcohol, or suggestive of sexual innuendo, bigotry, and gang affiliation is strictly prohibited.
4. Body wear that contains or includes messages that in the judgment of the administration are obscene, lewd, vulgar, threatening, intimidating or demeaning of an individual or group because of sex, color, race, religion, handicap, national origin, or sexual orientation is strictly prohibited.
5. Skirts shall be no shorter that mid-thigh. Shorts shall have 4” inseam.
6. Undergarments must not be visible at any time. See through clothing is not permitted.
7. Sunglasses and hoods worn over the head are not permitted in any of the buildings on campus for security reasons.
8. Body jewelry including chains, spikes and studs that may pose a threat of physical harm will not be allowed.
9. Footwear is required at all times and must be safe and appropriate for indoor or outdoor activity.
10. Hats will be removed once a student enters a classroom and for the duration of the class. A hat is any headwear or head covering.
Students are expected to meet dress code expectations each day of school.
Students who disregard the dress code will not be permitted in class until inappropriate clothing is replaced with appropriate clothing.
School administrators and teachers may require special clothing for health or safety reasons for students participating in physical education, certain extracurricular activities, work with or around machines or other activates. However, no particular brand may be required. In all cases in accordance with this dress code, school administrators will determine what is “appropriate attire”.
