Chinese 1

This is the first of a sequence of two intense courses of Mandarin Chinese. It emphasizes the basic language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students learn to read and write traditional, as well as simplified characters, and the Pinyin Romanization. While learning to communicate in Mandarin, the students also study the culture and history of the East Asian world, focusing mainly on China but also looking at its interrelations with Korea and Japan.

Simultaneous enrollment in B level or higher English and Math courses or approval by administration.
