English 11 Honors Literature & Composition
This is a rigorous course for serious, highly motivated students that focus on American literature. It will engage students in becoming skilled readers of prose written in a variety of disciplines, periods and rhetorical contexts. Students will write for a variety of purposes and forms: narrative, exploratory, expository, and argumentative and on a variety of subjects from personal experiences to public policies, from imaginative literature to popular culture. Students will be expected to complete summer reading texts and assigned work. Assignments are available from the Literature and Composition Department Head Teacher.
Note: This course differs from the 11 AP course in that it requires less summer reading, students will not take the second semester, 45-minute review course, it is not weighted, students are not expected to take the AP exam in the spring, and less emphasis may be placed on nonfiction literature.
