AP English 11 Language & Composition



This course will emphasize the expository, analytical and argumentative writing forms that are the basis of academic and professional communication. Emphasis is on American literature (in accordance with the Vermont Framework), but additional works will be included. Students will read and analyze prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines and rhetorical contexts. This course also develops skills in argumentation, rhetoric, persuasion, and style analysis. The course meets for 90 minutes each day in the first semester, and 45-minutes in semester 2. The focus in semester 2 is preparation for the AP exam. It is expected that each student takes the AP exam in May. Students will be expected to complete summer reading texts and assigned work. Assignments are available from the Literature and Composition Department Head Teacher.
